حيث أن الصحة هي مستوى كفاءة الجسم من الناحية الوظيفية والأيضية,وأيضًا قدرته على التكيف مع التغيرات الجسدية,والإجتماعية,والعقلية التي يتعرض لها. تكمن أهمية الصحة للإنسان فيما يأتي:

– عدم الشعور بالألم . وحين نتحدث عن السمنة , فنحن نقصد الألم النفسي الذي تسببه السمنة لمريضها بسبب الوزن الزائد الذي قد يكون صاحبه حاول مرارًا , وتكرارًا أن يتخلص منه بطرق مختلفة , إلا أن تلك المحاولات بائت بالفشل . مما يسبب قدر هائل من الإحباط ,واليأس. وبهذا فإن كانت الصحة سليمة , لا مجال للألم. 
– توفير المال . فإن مريض السمنة يصرف الكثير من المال , ليس فقط على الأطعمة , والمشروبات , بل وأيضًا على الأدوية المستهلكة في الآتي:
    * أدوية خاصة بفقدان الوزن .
    * أدوية خاصة بالضغط , والسكر , وغيرها من الأمراض , التي تكون السمنة هي السبب الرئيسي لإصابة الإنسان بها.
